Lead Service Line Inventory

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all water districts to perform a Lead Service Line Inventory as an effort to significantly lower the risk of lead and copper exposure in our nation's drinking water.

The inventory looks at service lines that bring water from the water main in the street, to the plumbing in homes and businesses. Those lines have split ownership with the city owning the line between the main and the water meter, and the property owner owning the line between the water meter and the home.

Service lines can be made of different materials including plastic, galvanized steel, copper, or lead. The installation of lead lines was banned in Washington State in 1986. The city conducted a physical inspection using the statistical approach recommended by the Washington State Department of Health by surveying a sampling of buildings built before 1986. The survey looked at the portion of the service line where it connected to the water meter.

The inventory shows there are no known lead service lines within the City of Woodland water distribution system.

More information about the survey and the city's ongoing lead and copper sampling can be found in the handout below. Also, please find a file of the inventory results below. Questions about the inventory or results can be directed to the Public Works office.
