Want to Volunteer? Would you like to see what police work is all about? Maybe you just have some spare time you would like to donate to your community. In either case, the Woodland Police Department has a volunteer position that might be right for you. Our clerical volunteers help out around the office. They answer phones, greet the public at the front counter, do computer data entry, and a myriad of other things dealing with the large amount of paperwork a police department generates. Police Reserve Officers are commissioned police officers. Reserves are armed/uniformed volunteers who, upon completion of their training (which includes a state certified reserve academy), can do all of the duties of a regular officer, i.e. work patrol in a police car, enforce laws, make arrests, etc. You must be at least 21-years of age to be a Reserve. Community Service Officers (CSO's) are uniformed, but not armed, semi-commissioned officers who enforce low level laws (parking violations, animal control laws, etc.) and handle calls for service that do not require a regular police officer. They investigate minor automobile accidents, do traffic control, assist with Municipal Court duties, and so on. To be a CSO you must be at least 18-years of age. All volunteer positions require an application form, a comprehensive background investigation, and some require that you submit to a polygraph or voice stress (lie detector) test. If you are interested in volunteering your free time, contact Karla Hiler, Police Clerk. |
